The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships were held this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. And where was I? -Not in Vegas. According to the 2011 70.3 PR (Pro Rankings), I was 198th place in the world. Missed the mark of top-50, by a smidge, I’d say. I was one spot ahead of that guy who just won 70.3 Worlds. Craig Alexander. With only TWO races that counted towards the 2011 PR I think I would have been close to the 50 mark if I would’ve had the full five races accounted for. Being my first year as a pro on the Ironman scene, I had to wait 60 days until I could start accumulating points. Trouble with that, is that those 60 days were in the middle of my season. -My fault. This next week I can start receiving points for 2012, and get a head start on the other bottom-feeders who are little fish in a big pond. I’d rather it be this way, instead of being accused of beating up on kindergardeners on the playground of age-groupers. Now don’t get me wrong. There are a fair number of age-groupers that are super FAST. Maybe some too fast, and might need to put on their big-girl panties on and play with big kids. It comes down to this: I’d rather get kicked in the face with sand by upperclassmen, than be a sandbagger.
I’m going to be in Vegas come 2012. And I’m not going as a spectator. I’ll be behind a set of aero-bars. Me and 49 of my closest friends. Maybe I’ll see you there.

Grilling and chilling. You would think that’s our motto at KompetitiveEdge/CEM Sales and Service. Every Friday Charlie whips up some home-made soft serve ice cream in our employee’s lounge. The ice cream machine is strategically placed next to the Donkey Kong arcade game. -Still can’t get past Level II. It’s like a green room for us employees. So this particular Friday is FIRST Friday. -So. SO?! Do you know what goes down on first Fridays? -BURGERS! Charlie wears many hats at CEM, but one of them is Grill Master. Check out this concoction Chris and Charlie came up with in the photo below. The teriyaki burger: Juicy all-beef patty, draped with sliced ham, melted swiss cheese, and to top it all off, a thick grilled pineapple slice, and fix it all up to your liking. Just keep your hands off mine.
The Runyons are an AWESOME family. The Runyon family runs the show between KompetitiveEdge and CEM. Rob, the ring leader, doesn’t have to hook us up with deliciousness EVERY Friday. But he does. It’s cool to say that this guy is my boss. The same guy who brings a fart machine to the “work” place to play practical jokes on co-workers. His kids are no different. Kind, giving, and humorous… good people. -Thanks, Rob.
What a way to kick off Labor Day weekend.
I actually spent most of Labor Day weekend in Nebraska. More grillin’, this time by my Father in law out at The Pointe. -One thing is for sure; I’m not lacking in protein this week in my diet. Each time I’m back in Nebraska I have to get in touch with my roots. Where it all started. On a minimum maintenance road somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
